Position it flat side down and do any trimming you need to do to see that it sets flat. Slicing through a Styrofoam ball isn't as easy as it sounds.and it's messy. Had to hollow the opening out a little more for a good fit.Īs I said earlier, the 6" ornament I had cut in half was too large, so I used a 4". I rechecked placing the handle into the cut Styrofoam ornament. Turn the broom straight up now and let the tubing fall down like a mop. Then tighten the zip ties and cut off the excess ends. Tighten them slightly and double check to see if they are fairly evenly spaced and none are too short. Take two zip ties or cable ties and position one close to the distal end of the handle and one just about where the rubber band is. The tubing actually comes to the end of the handle, I wanted to be sure it wouldn't pull out in the next step. This is how it looked when I had placed all the pieces of tubing underneath the rubber band. Better to have it under there too far, than not far enough. Position the tubing well underneath the rubber band so it won't pull out later. A rubber band was wrapped around the handle base twice and pieces of the tubing secured under the rubber band with the longer ends pointing toward the upper part of the handle. The Deco Flex Tubing was positioned about 1" or so away from the distal end of the broom handle (the end that will be going into the Styrofoam base). Turned out later that the 6" ball was too large and I wound up using a 4" ball instead. Then I hollowed out a hole that was about the size of the broom handle. I started with a 6" Styrofoam ornament and cut it in half using a knife with a serrated edge. The green Christmas ornament you see in the back ground of the above photo, was to be the base of my tree. Had more of some colors, less of another. Once that was completed, I cut 18" lengths of Poly Deco Flex Tubing in lime green, orange and black. I covered the end of the hollow tube with a piece of ribbon and then started at the opposite end wrapping the ribbon around the tube, use hot glue. I started with the cardboard tube from a 21" roll of deco mesh, black and orange ribbon and some hot glue for the broom handle. Sorry but I had problems with my camera after I started the project and haven't been able to recover the initial photos. The broom was easy to make, probably took me about an hour from start to finish. I really like when you can find a use for left over pieces so that nothing goes to waste. 1973 (1) acting (1) airshow (1) anachronism (1) arrow of light (1) art exhibit (1) Ashton (2) Athena (1) auto sales (1) bad movie (1) bear (2) Bechler Falls (1) Belmont Tumbler Company (1) best friend (1) bi-plane (1) Bielzy and Gottfried (1) birthday (1) bison (2) blood (1) Boiling River (1) Boy Scouts (3) brain (1) brain goo (1) brain mold (1) bridge (1) buffalo (3) BYU-Idaho (2) calf (1) camping (1) Canyon (2) carving (1) cascades (1) cave (5) Cave Falls (1) cavern (2) cemetery (1) Clear Lake (1) coat hanger (1) comedy (1) cool car (1) costume (1) costume design (1) costumes (1) craft (1) crater (2) Craters of the Moon (2) Creek (2) crystals (1) Cub Scouts (1) Dad (1) Darby Canyon (1) denver (1) depression glass (2) desert (2) doll (1) dolomite (1) double branch candlesticks (1) double light candlesticks (1) elegant glass (1) elk (2) family (2) Father and Son (2) Field of Heroes (1) Film Review (1) fish (1) fishing (1) floral wire (1) fox (1) frame (1) friend (1) fume hood (1) gallery (1) Garden (2) geyser (3) glaciation (1) glacier (1) glow (1) gory (1) Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (1) Grand Teton National Park (1) green glass (1) Green Man (1) grizzly (1) grouse (1) Halloween (5) Hart Gym (1) Hazel Atlas Glass Company (1) head (1) headlamps (1) heating mat (1) Heirloom (2) Heisey (1) Heisey Glass Company (1) Hell's Half Acre (1) high adventure (1) hike (13) hike Hiking (4) hiking (14) Hoodoo (1) hoop dancer (1) hot pot (2) ice cave (1) Idaho (2) Indiana Glass Company (1) influences (2) Island Park (3) Karen Carpenter (1) Kevin Locke (1) lake (2) lava rock (1) lava tube (2) lilac (1) Lilypad Lake (1) Lincoln Elementary (2) Lincoln Mercury (1) magical tome (1) Mammoth (3) mannequin (1) Memorial Day (2) Mesa Falls (2) metope (1) milk jug (1) mountain (8) Mr.This Witch's Broom was made using scraps and pieces of left over Deco Flex Tubing that I had in the shop.
